Pauly hat-trick helps Blaze to crucial road win
A hat-trick and man of the match performance from American forward Shawn Pauly helped the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze to a convincing 4-7 victory over Fife Flyers in Scotland.
Six of the eleven goals came in the opening twenty minutes with the home side getting off to an early 2-0 head start. Marcus Basara and Brett Bulmer both scoring whilst on a 5-on-3 powerplay (3.41 and 4.07).
Swede Thom Flodqvist got Coventry on the board (11.29) before Joe Basaraba made it 3-1 at 13.11.
Tim Crowder was to make it 3-2 on 16.57, his first of two on the night before the hat-trick hero Shawn Pauly tied things at three on the powerplay with less than 6 seconds remaining in the first (19.54).
With an assist on Pauly’s first, Alex Nikiforuk reached 100 career Elite League competition points and extended his point-scoring streak to an impressive 13 games.
On his return from injury, Dillon Lawrence was the only scorer in the middle period, pouncing on a Flodqvist shot that rebounded hard off the backboards to give Coventry a 4-3 lead (37.25).
Just 25 seconds into the third period and the Flyers were level again, Evan Bloodoff scoring with a penalty-shot.
With his 22nd of the Elite League season, Crowder put Blaze back ahead before Pauly with his 16th and 17th goals of the year made it a final score of 4-7.
