Help Atrium Health hit target
Atrium Health in Coventry which provides essential rehabilitation for those with long-term heart, lung and circulation problems is facing a race-against time to raise funds to improve its facilities.
Based in Watch Close in the city centre, Atrium Health, has received a generous pledge of £10,000 from Sport England – but on the condition that it can match that amount through community support by July 24.
To help raise the needed funds to create a wheelchair access toilet for its first-floor exercise and health education unit, on 26th June 2020 the Atrium Health team embarked on a 24 hour “Atrium Stadium Tours” cycling challenge. The challenge, to celebrate Coventry City's promotion involved them cycling the total distance of all 92 stadiums in the football league, which was 2359 miles in total, using the exercise bikes in the gym.
They completed the total distance with 2 hours to spare at 10am on the 27th June 2020. During the 24 hour period they received a lot of support from the community with a massive £1,430 being donated during the challenge. This meant passing the £5,000 mark, including a £1,000 donation from Coventry City Council.
However, to keep the money from Sport England and Coventry City Council, Atrium Health are still required to raise another £2,000 and the Coventry Blaze want to help!
Kerry Malik, executive assistant at Atrium Health, said to the Coventry Observer: “Our urgent goal is to improve our commitment to disability access at our facility by the provision of a wheelchair accessible toilet facility for our first-floor exercise and health education unit.
“We are thrilled that Sport England has generously pledged £10,000.
“However, we have to reach our £10,000 target by 24th July – or we won’t keep any of the funds raised so far – and that money must come from a minimum of 100 unique supporters, meaning it needs a real community effort to secure the funding we need.
“It’s a real race against time to bring in the money we need to improve our facilities for thousands of our members and their loved ones. Receiving the Sport England pledge has accelerated our motivation to increase supporters and involvement with our project."
Donors will receive a reward depending on the level of funding they give, from £15 to £100.
