Devils take two goal lead into second-leg
The number one seed and Elite League Champions, Cardiff Devils took a 2-4 victory away from the Skydome Arena in the first-leg of the PredictorBet playoffs quarter-finals .
Despite taking two leads, each time the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze were pegged back with the Welsh side taking home their two goal advantage with a couple in the third period.
Ben Lake gave Blaze the perfect start converting on the powerplay at 1.18. It was the only goal of a spirited first period as both teams looked to figure each other out early.
Joey Haddad levelled things (22.30), before Blaze grabbed a second lead through Danick Paquette (24.43). The effort being awarded following video review after the net was dislodged on the play.
Just past the half-way mark, the game was tied again through Sean Bentivoglio on the powerplay (30.56).
The outstanding Joey Martin gave the visitors their first lead on 43 minutes, tipping home a second Cardiff goal with the man advantage (2/5 overall with Blaze going 1/6).
Matt Pope wrapped up the scoring at 49.32 to give the Devils a 2-4 advantage in the aggregate decided tie.
The second leg will take place at Ice Arena Wales on Sunday with a 6pm face-off.
