Blaze take point from Glasgow
The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze picked up a further Elite League point in a 3-2 overtime defeat to the Glasgow Clan at Braehead Arena.
The visitors took a deserved 0-1 lead at 7.31 as Canadian forward Dillon Lawrence registered on a break-away, assisted by first-year pro Chris Pohlkamp.
It took until 30.57 for the Clan to beat the inspired C.J. Motte in the Blaze goal, Mikael Lidhammar producing a tidy move in-close to make it 1-1.
With the clock ticking down in the second period, Motte produced a contender for save of the season, diving across his goal to deny a sure second for the Clan.
The save proved even more important when Justin Hamonic fired Coventry’s second with just 4 seconds left on the clock in the middle period.
At 56.12 Blaze thought they’d made it 3-1 but with a penalty called on the play, Andrew Johnston’s effort was ruled out much to the frustration of Coventry Head Coach Danny Stewart and his players.
With Clan scoring on the resulting play to make it 2-2 through Mathieu Roy (56.41), tensions rose further as the game headed to 3-on-3 overtime.
It took 3 minutes and 50 seconds for the game to end as Travis Ehrhardt’s shot found its way into the Blaze goal to send the away side home with a point but a 3-2 defeat.
