Blaze suffer Murrayfield defeat
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze ended a disappointing weekend without any points, going down to the Edinburgh Capitals in Murrayfield by a score of 4-1.
Blaze missing British forward Ashley Tait fell behind at 12.27, player/coach of the Capitals Michal Dobron giving his side a 1-0 first period lead with a big shot from the blue-line.
The second saw the Scottish side double their advantage, Matt Tipoff making an outstanding play to find Garrett Milan at the back post who finished smarty for 2-0 at 32.06.
In a rare situation, referee Toby Craig ended the second period with 5 minutes 22 seconds remaining after a big hit on Blaze's Bjorn Bombis by Dobron caused the plexi-glass to pop out of its stanchion.
Following repairs, the teams returned to the ice playing the 5.22 without any scoring before switching ends to commence the third and final period.
Robin Bergman got Blaze on the board quickly after the restart (41.00) but Caps hit right back, Evgeni Fyodorov putting home a Pavel Vorobyev cross-ice pass for 3-1 at 45.08.
Despite a late powerplay opportunity, and with Brian Stewart pulled from his net for a 6-on-4, Blaze were unable to find a second goal.
With just 1.4 seconds remaining, Edinburgh's Garrett Milan added his second into the empty net ending the game 4-1.
Head Coach Danny Stewart said, "It was not good enough. The only positive I can take away is that the third period was our best all weekend, but we have to play for 60 minutes. It's up to me to right the ship and hold guys accountable."
