Blaze hammer Capitals on home ice

Blaze 12
Capitals 4

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze secured a third straight victory in the Elite League with a 12-4 victory over the Edinburgh Capitals.

Blaze went into the game without Slovakian defenceman Boris Valabik through suspension, whilst Josh Godfrey was a welcome return. Cale Tanaka was the unlucky healthy scratch.

Blaze came out firing and took a 7-0 lead into the first intermission. Chris Bruton opened the scoring after just 1.43 on the powerplay before Jordan Pietrus, Brett Robinson, Brenden Walker and Jim Jorgensen added to the score. At 14.01 and 5-0 down, Edinburgh Head Coach Riley Emmerson replaced netminder Craig Mallinson with usual import starter Carsen Chubak.

It didn't take long for the Canadian to concede from Drew Fisher and Ashley Tait, sending Blaze into the dressing room 7-0 to the good after one period.

British netminder Renny Marr replaced Brian Stewart in the Blaze net to start the second period before Caps' forward Trevor Gerling hit a hatrick, adding to a goal from Nikita Kolesnikovs in response to Blaze doubles from Russ Cowley and Carl Lauzon, leading to a 11-4 end of second period scoreline.

There was only one goal in the final period and second of the night from Blaze forward Drew Fisher as the game ended 12-4.

The teams meet again the Scottish capital tomorrow evening (5.30pm face-off).

"I thought we had a real professional start going up seven-nothing and a professional third  winning one-nothing. We didn't give up much in those two periods. We have got two of the four points and now we have to make sure we get two more in Edinburgh tomorrow." - Blaze Head Coach, Chuck Weber
