Blaze book playoff place
Defending champions Genting Casino Coventry Blaze secured an Elite League play-off place despite a 6-3 defeat to Sheffield Steelers at Sheffield Arena.
With nearest rivals Manchester Storm losing at home to Braehead Clan, Blaze - who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end - claimed the final qualifying spot.
Three goals in five first-period minutes put Steelers in command with Mathieu Roy's powerplay tally at 6.08 being followed by a Ben O'Connor double (8.14 & 11.35 powerplay).
Captain Ashley Tait got Blaze on the board with 64 seconds of the first session remaining - his 199th marker for Coventry and 249th in all EIHL competitions.
Luke Ferrara (26.53) made it 4-1 but strikes from Jordan Pietrus (30.47 powerplay) and Chris Bruton (42.36) made it a one-goal game.
Further powerplay goals from Jeff Legue (52.42) and Tyler Mosienko (56.29) ensured Steelers snapped a six-game losing run against Blaze.

“We didn’t get off to the start we were looking for. We have been playing well of late and at this time of year we want to get every win. We have to learn from it and re-group.” - #16 Jordan Pietrus
