The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze’s run of three home wins came to an end on Saturday night as the Guildford Flames skated away from the Skydome Arena with a 5-1 victory.

Coventry started the night well with Johnny Curran continuing his hot form to put the home side ahead at 2.34.

Five minutes later, though, the momentum swung to the Flames when Jake Bolton found the top corner of C.J. Motte’s net and the Blaze were unable to get it back again.

Dane Gibson almost put Blaze ahead early in the second period, but he was unable to finish the big chance past Flames’ Kevin Lindskoug.

Guildford went ahead shortly after (25.42) when Levi Cable scored and the winger doubled the Flames’ advantage just 44 seconds later.

Brit Jordan Cownie all but sealed the points for Guildford at 47.39 and the scoring was complete when Ian Watters registered with 6.46 remaining.

The victory ended a four-game losing skid for the eighth placed Flames and dropped the Blaze back down a spot into sixth.

The Blaze face the Cardiff Devils away from home on Sunday (6pm).
