Bloodoff Nets OT Winner

Evan Bloodoff scored a powerplay goal 59 seconds into overtime to gain the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze a 4-3 road victory over the Guildford Flames on Sunday.

The Blaze fell behind in the Premier Sports Elite League game early when Ian McNulty scored the first of two on the night at 5.43.

Coventry hit straight back though through Janne Kivilahti who scored unassisted at 8.28.

The Blaze were forced to kill three minor penalties before Johnny Curran registered at 18.43 to give the away side a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period.

Each team were called a minor penalty in the middle period, but there was no more scoring until the third.

Chris Gerrie tied things up for the Flames at 46.31 before they went ahead with McNulty’s second coming with eight minutes of the game to play.

Coventry’s top-scorer Luke Ferrara made it 3-3 at 54.46 firing in Nate Halbert’s pass at the backdoor on a one-timer.

With Brett Ferguson called for tripping at 59.38, the Blaze took advantage of the extra man in the overtime period with Bloodoff scoring from Halbert at 60.59.
