IDP’s Innovation in Design Award
Recently, a new award was launched by multi-disciplinary design consultancy IDP to recognise innovative design among architectural technology students at Coventry University.
Kirsten Adjei-Attah, who had just completed the second year of her degree course, was the first to win IDP’s Innovation in Design Award comprising £200 in prize money and a certificate.
IDP was so impressed by Kirsten’s winning designs that they also offered her a year’s placement at their head office in Spon Street, Coventry.
The award is the latest collaboration between IDP and Coventry University, and aims to celebrate and reward the design flair of the architectural technology students.
David Blake, executive director and chairman of IDP, said: “The quality of the architectural technology under graduates at Coventry University really is most impressive and we wanted to recognise the strides it has made in integrating design which is very rare in technical degree courses.”
Kirsten’s winning work included designs for a park café, an office development and an urban design scheme for the former Co-op building in Coventry.
The 20-year-old, from London, said: “I was shocked and really pleased to win and the placement year with IDP is such a great opportunity. I know the experience will be second to none.”
IDP has a history of employing architectural technology graduates from Coventry University with the most recent being Sarah Olowe and Gabriel Nketia.
Carl Mills, course director of architectural technology at Coventry University, said: “We really value our relationship with IDP. They have been outstanding supporters of the course and I am looking forward to many future developments with the practice."
