The Blaze are excited to welcome one-year-old puppy Jagger to Coventry for both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 Elite League seasons.
The pup born in Ontario, Canada will be accompanied by Dad Justin Hamonic who has committed to a renewed two-year deal with the Blaze which will cover the 2021/22 and 2022/23 Elite League seasons.
The 6'4" stay-at-home defenceman iced in 57 Elite League competition games for the Blaze over the 2019/20 Elite League season registering 17 points (five goals, 12 assists).
Hamonic had agreed to return for 2020/21, but with the season cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he returned to the ECHL and iced 69 times with the Tulsa Oilers registering 15 points (two goals, 13 assists). He was named their defensive player of the year.
Prior to his arrival in Coventry, the 27-year-old spent a year in France with Ducs d'Angers where he played in 47 regular season and playoff games contributing 10 points (one goal, 9 assists).
Before moving to Europe, the Winnipeg native appeared in near 200 games over three seasons split between the AHL (San Antonio Rampage, Utica Comets) and ECHL (Alaska Aces, Fort Wayne Comets, Colorado Eagles and Worcester Railers).
With the Railers in 2017/18 he was named an associate Captain, utilising his major junior leadership experience of two years as Captain of the WHL’s Tri-City Americans.
In total, Hamonic spent four years with Tri-City, playing 255 games and was named most valuable player and defenceman of the year in his final season (2014/15).
Head Coach Danny Stewart said, "Hammer was a huge part of our success last season. Nothing flashy, but from a coach's stand point, he is what every team needs. He wins puck battles, puck races and is very tough to play against for opposing forwards. He was massive for our penalty-kill last season and will once again be a top pairing d-man for us.
"His ability to eat minutes is also a huge factor in our commitment to him for a further two seasons. His conditioning and professionalism is phenomenal!"
We would also like to say a big welcome back to Jenna, Justin's partner who has also become a big part of the Blaze family.
