Weber lauds re-signings

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach, Chuck Weber has lavished praise on trio Brett Robinson, Jordan Pietrus and Jim Jorgensen who were all announced as returning for the 2016/17 season last night at the club's awards show. Robinson has signed for a further one year, whilst both Jorgensen and Pietrus have signed two-year extensions.

"All three are leaders on this team both offensively and defensively. All three play the game the right way and they have the work-rate necessary to be successful," said Weber.

"Brett Robinson's numbers don't lie. He had a slow start and some people were hard on him but I have known Brett since 2009 and I was not worried. about him.

"He is our leading scorer in the league with 60 points in 51 games, he is one of our best plus/minus forwards and has been involved in around 40 per cent of our goals.

"But the biggest thing about Brett's stats are what he has done in our conference. Only Joey Martin has more points in our conference.

"That means he is getting points against the best teams - Cardiff, Sheffield, Nottingham and Belfast. It says a lot about him wanting to play against the best and do well against the best.

"I have coached him before and he is someone you want to build around."

"Jordan Pietrus was the perfect guy for us who came in at the right time. He plays the game hard and he works hard.

"His character is off the charts and he puts in all the work when no-one is looking.

"He works hard in practice and even though he is on the schools programme, he races into to get changed as quick as he can as he doesn't want to miss anything.

"Jordan wants to be out there getting better every day and you cannot have enough of those guys.

"He goes to the hard areas and he has scored a lot of big goals for us. He always had the potential to be a point-a-game player.

"It took him 10 games or so to get acclimated to the Elite League but in the 40 or so games since he has been around a point a game if not over.

"He came in with no training camp, he is someone who plays the point on the powerplay, he gets his nose dirty - he does so many things and is someone you want to lay foundations around.

"Jim Jorgensen  is one of the most under-rated defencemen in the league. He plays against every team's top line and he is one of the most dangerous defencemen offensively off the rush with his skating ability.

"He trains properly, he practices properly and he is a foundation guy.

"We want those types of players in our team and when we are looking to bring new guys in next season we want them to know the Blaze way.

"Jim leads by example, he blocks shots but he also scores big goals.

"He is the fifth leading scoring defencemen in our conference behind [Andrew] Hotham, [Ben] O'Connor, [Cullen] Eddy and [Carl] Hudson."
