Venus scores landmark goal to beat Devils
With his 50th goal for the club, in his 500th game in Elite League competitions, British forward Ross Venus secured two impressive points for the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze, defeating back-to-back Champions Cardiff Devils 4-3 at the Skydome Arena on Boxing Day.
With just 11 seconds gone, the Devils got on the board through Matt Pope, but Blaze's hard-working Man of the Match Dillon Lawrence tied the game with his first of the Elite League season at 4.16.
On 14.08, Cardiff got themselves back ahead through stand-out defenceman Gleason Fournier, his first of two on the night.
With no scoring in the second period, the visitors went into the third period confident in their 1-2 lead. It lasted until 44.09 when Tim Crowder tapped home for his 12th of the year.
Crowder then turned provider for Blaze's top-scorer Ben Lake, putting his side ahead on the powerplay (45.40), his 17th in what is a career year for the popular Canadian.
Fournier's second (51.51) tied the score at three before Venus's landmark strike, from the wing, somehow sneaking through the glove of Great Britain number one Ben Bowns (57.44) for a final score of 4-3.
