The Players Charity poker night raises a cool £550
The Players Charity alongside Genting Casino held their annual charity poker night on Tuesday 23rd February. Coventry Blaze Ice hockey fans took on their heroes and helped raise a cool £550 for Coventry Young Carers at a charity poker night at Genting Casino Coventry.
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze players swapped the ice for the card tables to test their skills in the poker tournament against supporters and sponsors.
Anyone who knocked out an ice hockey player won a signed hockey puck, while the prize for knocking casino general manager Tracey Gough out of the game was a Blaze replica jersey. The overall winner was Chris Bruton who scooped the £350 jackpot prize and further prizes were also awarded to Stuart Gibb and David Harris.
Tracey said: “It was a great evening and a lot of fun. It was a sell-out with 54 taking part. It was a chance for Blaze fans to meet the players and test their competitive edge in a very different setting while helping a good cause too.
“We laid on a buffet and our dealers helped anyone not familiar with poker to join in. The annual tournament has grown in popularity since the first was held in 2013.
“As sponsors of Coventry Blaze we enjoy hosting such events where we can build on our relationship with the team and the fans.”
The money raised will go to The Carers Trust Heart of England Young Carers Project. It supports young people aged between five and 18 years old who look after or help someone else look after a person with a disability, illness or addiction problems. It could be a parent, sibling, grandparent or close friend.
