Thank you from Adam Calder
On behalf of everyone involved at the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze, we want to offer a genuine thank you to all of the people that have contributed to the Support 25 campaign.
There are too many people to mention, over 400 donations on the Just Giving Site, hundreds of people at the Benefit Game, donations to the Auction from all over the world – and they are still arriving!
From Ryan Finnerty to the Calgary Flames, from the Sheffield Steelers, to Martin Yardley to Mark Brookes and the Belfast Giants. From Gary Moran to Rachel Holden to Dougie Clarkson. From Matrix Frames to Five-On-3 to Todd Kelman and his Cardiff Devils - we could go on and on and on!
It’s just unfair and impossible to try to name all of the people that have helped and donated so we will stop there. But it’s fair to say that people from all walks of life within the sport have contributed massively. Blaze fans, new and old in particular have really come together for Adam, it been an incredible effort.
We know we could continue with the fund raising and the Auctions, but for us to be able to get the money from the Just Giving site to Adam, we have to close it.
We have agreed Monday 31st October at approx. 6pm, we will close the Just Giving site.
Of course, there may still be donations coming in, we still have other Auction items coming through for example (keep an eye on @Support25Calder) but we will ‘find a way’ to get any further monies off people – don’t worry about that!
Adam himself was typically overwhelmed with the support on the night, and generally with how the fund raising has gone. He was too emotional to say a few words afterwards on the ice but he sent us this and asked us to share it with you.
“Wow, firstly like to say it’s been a pretty crazy last month and the love and compassion everyone has shown has been pretty overwhelming! When James approached me and I agreed, I said “Let’s not do too much though” and he looked back and winked and agreed and here we are now?
"I know I thanked them both at the game but a big thanks to Rob Plaister and Craig Summerton for everything you did and pulling it all together on this side of the pond and Luc Chabot over in North America.
“Huge thanks to everyone in the hockey community, here in the UK and pretty much worldwide for all of your support and donations! To all the fans that made it to the game and some of the old team mates who made it back, thank you! You were the ones who made all those years here in Coventry very special and I was lucky to have played in some great places and met some great people along the way! We could go on and on but thank you!
“I know for a fact Planet Ice would have had another puddle on the ice if I was to take the microphone as it was a pretty emotional night, so I was glad ‘Stewy’ was able to say a lot of what I was thinking! Coventry means a lot to me and is a pretty special place but not only here the hockey community worldwide this past month has been pretty special."
Adam also took the time to send his best wishes to Scott Matzka, who in conjunction with the Cardiff Devils (see here) has been raising significant funds to help people affected, like himself, with ALS.
“I know Scott is currently fighting his own battle right now, and he has had some incredible help from the guys down in Cardiff. It’s truly amazing how everyone pulls together. I send Scott my best wishes, he is in my thoughts every day.”
The Blaze have also received a lovely message from Adam’s Mother, Rhonda, back home in Canada, we thought it fitting to share it with everyone.
“Words cannot express how overwhelmed we are at the love and support your organisation has shown Adam.
“He is a man of few words but never doubt that he is deeply moved by all the effort you have made to help him. Never one to like to be the centre of attention he finds this situation particularly difficult and struggles to find the words to show his heartfelt appreciation.
“We have seen how touched he is by not just the monetary support, but also the messages of encouragement, although we try to be with him as much as possible, knowing that he can reach out to his hockey family and friends has made the distance more tolerable at this time.
“Hoping for positive future for Adam, thank you, and please pass our thanks on to all involved."

A final figure raised will be known shortly once we close the Just Giving site and add together all of the proceeds from the benefit game, jersey auction etc. and as soon as we have it, we will of course share it.
Again, thanks for all of the support.
