Stewart excited to add Hansen to Blaze roster
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart is excited to add 28-year-old American forward Jake Hansen to his 2018/19 roster.
The 6’1” right-shooter joins the club on the back of a pro-career year in regards offensive production with Rungsted Seier Capital of the Danish Metal Ligaen.
In 50 regular season appearances, his 18 goals, 35 assists for 53 points were enough to lead the team and sit him 7th overall in league point scoring.
Icing in 14 playoff games with 3 goals, 6 assists, he helped Rungsted to their best post-season finish, ending with a bronze medal. He also played 3 times in the Continental Cup with 3 points in 3 games.
Prior, the White Bear Lake, Minnesota native spent a year in Germany’s DEL with Schwenninger Wild Wings and two in the high-profile Finnish SM-liiga playing for Ässät.
Before his move to Europe, and following an outstanding University career, Hansen was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets, round 3, 68th overall in the 2007 NHL entry draft. After signing a two-year entry level contract in 2012, he went on to play two years with Columbus’ AHL affiliate team, Springfield Falcons.
In both 2009/10 and 2011/12, Hansen, a product of the University of Minnesota’s well-respected programme, was selected for the NCAA (WCHA) All-Academic Team.

As a top-junior, he was a USHL Clark Cup Champion with Sioux Falls Stampede in 2006/07, and in 2007/08, his 31 goals, 27 assists for 58 points in 60 games saw him named to the USHL’s second All-Star team.
Coach Stewart said, “I'm really excited to get Jake on board next season. He is a big body that has elite skating ability. He is coming off a great season in Denmark where he led his team in scoring, and we will be leaning on him to create that same type of offense for us here in Coventry. He has a high-end work rate on the ice and combined with his speed, makes him a very dangerous and tough player to contain for other teams. We wanted to add more speed and goals to our offense and with Jake we tick both boxes.”
