Steve Small sets retirement date
Long-time equipment manager of the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Steve Small will be retiring from his full-time position at the end of the current Elite League season.
Steve, who has been with the club since moving to Coventry in 2000 will still likely be involved on chosen game-night’s but has decided it’s time to spend more time away from the rink, with family and allow him to pursue other interests at the grand-young age of 63.
Tributes to Steve
Taking over the full-time Equipment Manager role from 2019/20 onwards will be Micky Kemp who spent three years previously with the club working under Small before moving on to Milton Keynes Lightning and Cardiff Devils, also serving as Equipment Manager for Team Great Britain at various levels.
Director, Andy Buxton said, "It goes without saying how grateful we are for everything that Steve has done for this club. He has been a huge part of the organisation since we moved to Coventry and has helped us win many championships. He has been a fantastic support to so many people who have come and gone through the years, and I know he is held in high-regard by Danny (Stewart) and all of the coaches before him. He has been fantastically loyal to us, and although we know he’ll still be around, we'll certainly miss him around the rink every day."
On the returning Micky Kemp, Andy commented:
"We are pleased to welcome Micky back to the organisation on a full-time basis. He knows the club inside out and performs his duties to a very high level. He cares and brings a positive attitude and energy to the rink every day. Although he has big shoes to fill, we have complete confidence that Micky has the capability to do so.”
