Preview: Scotland Triple Header

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze travel to Scotland today to prepare for three games in three nights, starting with Dundee Stars tomorrow (7.30pm).

Danny Stewart will then return to Fife for a second time behind the Blaze bench on Saturday (7.15pm), before wrapping up the Scottish trip at Murrayfield against the Edinburgh Capitals on Sunday (6.00pm).

Blaze will have new signings Barry Almeida and T.J Syner in the line-up, the American pair flying into Coventry on Wednesday, straight onto the ice for practice and today on the bus to Scotland.

On the back of Elite League wins over Belfast Giants and Braehead Clan, the Blaze currently sit in 7th place with 11 points from 13 games (see tables).

Their opponents tomorrow, coached by former Blaze Head Coach Marc LeFebvre find themselves in 9th having played 13 games, achieving 10 points. Despite some early season struggles in the league, over the past two weekends, the Stars have impressed picking up points in shoot-out losses to Cardiff and Sheffield, also beating the Steelers 4-0 and Manchester on penalty shots. It will be the second game of the season between the sides, Blaze winning the first at the Skydome 4-1.

Fife Flyers meanwhile have started the Elite League season strongly, currently 4th with 16 points from 13 games. It will be the third meeting between the two this season, the Flyers beating Blaze in both previous meetings, 4-1 in Kirckaldy led by a Ryan Dingle double, and 0-1 at the Skydome, Fife netminder Shane Owen stopping all Coventry’s 41 shots that night.

Sitting bottom of the Elite League currently are Sunday night’s opponents, the Edinburgh Capitals, with 9 points from 13 played. The only previous time Blaze have met Edinburgh this season, it finished 4-1 to the home side in the Scottish Capital, Garrett Milan scoring twice.
