Robinson named Elite League Player of the Week
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze forward Brett Robinson has been named the Elite League’s Player of the Week for period ending 25th February 2018.
The 33-year-old player-assistant coach played a big part as the Blaze got four points to pull themselves level with Braehead Clan on points as they battle for play-offs.
And Robinson believes momentum is with his team right now heading into the final few weeks of the regular campaign after winning five of the last seven games.
“It was a huge weekend for the team,” he said. “The last month, we’ve been playing in games that have been play-off type situations. We’ve got no-one to blame for ourselves for where we are.
“We have to fight for the last play-off spot and the four-point weekend. The award is nice, but it wouldn’t have meant anything without the wins.
“I believe momentum is with us just now and the last three weeks, we’ve played some good stuff and some results hadn’t gone our way early on in the campaign.
“But recently, we’ve been finding ways to win games and that’s all that matters at this stage of the season. There are nights you won’t play your best, but wins, however you get them, can build momentum.
“We’ve got a lot of confidence in us right now and we want to keep that rolling as we move into another busy weekend for us.”
Robinson picked up one goal and three assists in the 5-4 overtime victory over Guildford Flames on Saturday before adding one and four for a weekend total of nine points in the 5-8 win over Milton Keynes Lightning a day later.
Coventry are now level on 43 points with Braehead Clan, who occupy that eighth spot, with the Glasgow side above them by virtue of regulation time wins.
Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart paid tribute to Robinson and his contribution to his team following the weekend’s exertions.
He said, “’Robo’ has consistently produced for this club during his time here. He's got a good hockey head and that's how he plays.
“He rose his game to another level this weekend and that's what we need this time of year. I'm thrilled for ‘Robo’ and this is much deserved for him.”
