Reasons to join us for MK cup clash

On Sunday, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze face-off against Milton Keynes Lightning at the Skydome Arena (5.15pm). Here’s a few reasons why you should join us:

Because it’s the cup

Blaze’s last success in the Challenge Cup came ten years ago. Our Head Coach Danny Stewart was part of that team who demolished the Sheffield Steelers over two legs to lift the trophy. That was too long ago and we want to be going to Cardiff on Sunday 4th March to play in that final as announced earlier this week.

Because it’s “extremely serious”

As Ryan Dingle told us (here), with 8 from 12 going through to the quarter-finals this season, rather than 8 from 10, it’s more difficult than ever to advance, therefore the Assistant Captain and teammates will be taking game one "extremely seriously" and they need your support as they look to get off to the perfect start.

Because we’re backing the bid

This season, the Blaze are backing the 2021 Coventry City of Culture bid by wearing special jerseys for the Challenge Cup fixtures. The grey and black shirts have been designed to celebrate the city and are available to purchase as replica's or if you want a game-worn, you can get one through the auction (full details).

Because Vally’s on fire

Selected as the most recent Elite League Player of the week following game-winning-goals in both victories last weekend, Canadian sharp-shooter Marco Vallerand has started the season in fine form posting 4 goals, 2 assists in the 4 games played so far.

Because the Captain's leading by example

Captain Jordan Pietrus picked up the Man of the Match award in both games last weekend and has earned the praise of teammates and Head Coach Danny Stewart alike. His 7 points in the 4 games so far are good enough to joint lead the league.

Because it could get “Nasti”

After conceding just one goal over the 120 minutes played against Manchester Storm and Braehead Clan, Blaze goalie Kevin Nastiuk looks like he’s quickly become accustomed to the Elite League following seven years in Germany. His 91.3% save-percentage proves the point, currently placing him third in the league. You could win the jersey straight off his back on the night in the Southam Agri Game Worn Raffle.

Because of familiar faces

Former Blaze Captain Ashley Tait, who won eight major trophies with the organisation will return to the Skydome Arena in the uniform of Milton Keynes, along with a Playoff winner in 2015 James Griffin. Lewis Hook, a former two-way player and equipment manager Micky Kemp, who spent many years with Coventry will also be on the MK bench.

Because it's our local rivals

Located less than 50 miles from Coventry, Milton Keynes and their vocal away support will be looking to set an early marker against us. We're ready for an explosive battle. Make sure you don't miss it!
