Proud run comes to an end for Blaze

A proud run came to an end for the Coventry Blaze last night.

The 7-2 Elite Series defeat against the Sheffield Steelers put an end to a streak of 19 consecutive Elite League competition games without losing in regulation time.

Under the stewardship of Head Coach Danny Stewart and his assistant Dayle Keen, the run which carried over from the 2019/20 Elite Season to the Elite Series, was the best since an equal 19 game streak over February/March of 2005 when the Blaze team of that season won the Elite League Grandslam.

The loss was also just our third in regulation time in the last 30 Elite League competition games, taking 47 points from a possible 60.

Chairman Andy Buxton commented: "Although it is disappointing that the streak had to come to an end, we're extremely proud as an organisation of Danny, Keeno and all of the players who have played a part in it.

"To put together a run like this, at the level that the Elite League is at now, is fantastic, and testament to the hard work of Danny, Keeno and everyone involved."

The Blaze will look to rebound from Wednesday's defeat on Friday when we take on the Manchester Storm in our next Elite Series 'regular season' game.
