Preview: Blaze vs. Flyers (09/10/16)
On the back of an impressive victory at Ice Arena Wales, Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are back on home ice this evening, the Fife Flyers the visitors.
Whilst Blaze were grabbing a 2-3 overtime victory in South Wales last night, the Flyers were hammering Manchester Storm 7-0 in Kirkcaldy.
That was the Scottish sides second win in three games, putting them 3rd in the Elite League table with 6 points from 4 games played so far.
With back-to-back wins, Blaze are just one point behind their opponents tonight with 5 points from 5 games.
The two sides met for the first time last Saturday in Kirckaldy where a Ryan Dingle double spoilt Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart’s return to the club where he spent five years (4-1).
Fife Captain Dingle leads the club for goals and points (8+9=17) whilst netminder Shane Owen has impressed early with a 92.4% save-percentage over all games played in the league and Challenge Cup so far.
Special teams are key in any game and Blaze’s powerplay has been hot on home ice, 25.9%. Away from home Fife’s strike rate with the man advantage is 15.79%.
Penalty-killing wise, Blaze at the Skydome Arena are 84.62% with their opponents at 78.94% on the road.
Blaze have only ever lost twice at home to Fife in 19 previous meetings. The Scottish side’s last win coming in December 2013.
Marc Cantin is again likely to be missing from Danny Stewart's line-up whilst Fife are set to be missing Ric Jackman and David Turon also through injury.
Head Coach Danny Stewart commented, "Fife had a big result last night, they have a lot of offence so we are going to have to be ready."
Fife Head Coach Todd Dutiaume said to Flyers TV, "Coventry really looked to have turned a corner… their confidence will be growing. They play well in front of their home crowd so we’re going to have to be at our best."
