Pietrus and Venus return, Jorgensen moves on
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart has today confirmed that both Ross Venus and Jordan Pietrus will be staying with the club for the 2017/18 Elite League season, each entering the second-year of their respective two-year deals.
However, American defenceman, Jim Jorgenson will be leaving the organisation following two-and-a-half years’ service.
The 31-year-old, joined the Blaze midway through the 2014/15 campaign, helping the club to lift the Elite League Playoff trophy in his first season.
Stewart explained, “First of all I want to thank Jim for his time and dedication to the club. He is a model professional and always conducted himself in the correct manner. I can’t fault Jim’s effort at all, but I want us to go in a different direction defensively and so have had to make this tough decision. Everyone at the club wishes Jim Jorgensen all the very best, of that there is no doubt.”
On the return of Captain Jordan Pietrus and 22-year-old Ross Venus, Stewart said, “Both Jordan and Ross are hard-working players, and guys you want with you in the trenches. I think Ross is very unlucky not to be in Belfast right now with the Great Britain squad. Both guys had good solid seasons, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again next season.”
The Head Coach also confirmed he plans to take his time with regards to recruitment this summer concluding:
“It’s a long period to assess exactly what we need, we have plenty of irons in the fire already, but we won’t be rushing into anything.”
Jordan Pietrus and Ross Venus join David Clements as confirmed on the Blaze roster for the 2017/18 Elite League season.
