Phillips is coming
The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are delighted to announce the signing of 26-year-old Canadian netminder Jamie Phillips for the 2019/20 Elite League season.
The 6’3” left catcher will play in Europe for the first time after spending the past three years in the AHL and ECHL where he consistently posted an impressive save-percentage over 91 percent.
This past season at Reading Royals, he ended the year extremely strong with a 92 percent save-percentage and 2.31 goals-against-average in 12 games.

In addition to Reading, Phillips has safeguarded the net of Florida Everblades, Jacksonville IceMen and Tulsa Oilers, totalling 89 ECHL games. He has also iced 27 times with Manitoba Moose in the AHL.
The Caledonia, Ontario native is a 2012 draft pick of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets (round 7, #190 overall) and in July 2016 signed a two-year contract with the organisation.
As part of the Jets’ farm system, in his first professional season (2016/17) with Tulsa Oilers he was named starting goalie in the ECHL’s All-Star game and awarded goaltender of the month in October 16.

Prior to turning pro, Phillips made a huge impact over four seasons at Michigan Tech making the NCAA (WCHA) conference First All-Star Team in 2014/15 and the second team in 2015/16.
In 15/16, he was named NCAA (WCHA) Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year and during 14/15 was both a Hobey Baker and Mike Richter nominee, awards given to college hockey’s most outstanding player, and the NCAA’s best goalie respectively.
Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “We sure have been patient in finding the right fit for us, and we couldn’t be happier. Jamie is a fantastic goalie who has had success at every level he’s played. He’s a competitor and true professional who will give us a chance to win every night. He fits exactly what we wanted. A proven guy at this level who is still committed and hungry to win and progress in his career.”

Phillips commented, "I'm excited to join Coventry. I spoke to a few current and former players and they all had great things to say about the club and the fan support. I can't wait to get over in August and begin my career in Europe with the Blaze."
Thanks to DRP Logisitcs
The Blaze would like to thank Rob Plaister of DRP Logistics who has supported the signing of Jamie Phillips with a generous financial contribution.
