Paquette returns with double
Following three games out with suspension, Canadian forward Danick Paquette returned to the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze line-up with a bang registering two goals, an assist and collecting the Man of the Match award in 7-3 victory over the Dundee Stars.
Whilst the result puts a little breathing space between Coventry (9th) on 51 points and Dundee (10th) with 48, a late goal for Braehead Clan in a 4-3 victory over Milton Keynes keeps the Glasgow club in the 8th place playoff spot, still one ahead of Blaze (52 points).
With top-scorer Marco Vallerand missing through injury, Coventry Head Coach Danny Stewart looked to his other forwards to fill the void of the 34 Elite League goal-scorer, and that they did, starting with Paquette on the powerplay at 10.25.
Dundee's own Marc-Olivier, Mimar tied the game (18.23) to end the first period all square.
Just 17 seconds into the middle session, late season signing Lukas Lundvald Neilson gave the Stars a 1-2 lead on the powerplay (20.17). Blaze Captain Jordan Pietrus with his 23rd of the year made it 2-2, again with the man advantage (27.28). Coventry going 2-2 on the night, Dundee 2-6 overall.
Ryan Dingle with his first of a pair made it 3-2 (31.40), before the dangerous Adam Coruchaine struck the first of a deserved double for himself (35.11) to make it 4-2.
The second for Paquette came at 36.02 (5-2), completing a rampant second period for a confident looking Blaze side.
With their second powerplay marker of the night, Cody Carlson registered a consolation for Dundee (45.37), Courchaine (45.54) and Dingle (56.30) into the empty-net then making sure of the two points for Coventry, ending the game with a final score of 7-3.
