Oggy Oggy Oggy!

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze had a special guest in attendance last night, Coventry City legend Steve Ogrizovic.

Taking our PR of the past week in good spirit, Steve was delighted to accept the invitation from Blaze to attend the game where he spent the night in the DRP Logistics SkySuite.

In an illustrious goalkeeping career, Steve played 601 times for the Sky Blues, becoming the Club’s record appearance maker, and was a vital part of the 1987 FA Cup win.

Since hanging up his gloves in 2000, he has been an ever present on the back-room staff at Coventry City, taking on roles such as Academy Manager and Goalkeeper Coach. In April he announced his retirement following a total of 35 years with the football club.

Ahead of face-off, Steve was treated to a huge round of applause from the Skydome crowd, to commemorate his retirement and acknowledge his massive contribution to sport in Coventry.

After the game, he presented the man-of-the-match awards, suitably to Great Britain’s number one netminder Ben Bowns of Cardiff Devils and Blaze’s Dillon Lawrence.

We thank Steve for joining us, and whilst he may never turn his hand to ice hockey, we hope to see him back at the Skydome Arena soon.
