Ferrara double downs Panthers
Two goals from Great Britain forward Luke Ferrara helped the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze to an impressive 1-3 mid-week road victory against the Nottingham Panthers at the Motorpoint Arena.
Despite Blaze having a number of opportunities on the powerplay and out-shooting their opponents by 25 to 14 through two periods, neither team could find a breakthrough past the two men of the match, netminders Matt Hackett (Coventry) and Patrick Munson (Nottingham).
The third period did however open up a little and despite Panthers getting an upper hand on the shot count (10-13), it was Blaze who found the net more often to make it 3 wins out of 3 in a week.
Justin Kovac from Luke Pither and Robert Farmer broke the deadlock for the home side at 45.48, but the double from Ferrara then turned the game on its head. The equaliser coming seconds after a powerplay opportunity had ended (48.47) assisted by Captain Kevin Morris and David Clements. The go-ahead goal, and what turned out to be the game-winner was an unassisted effort timed at 56.58.
With Panthers seeking the equaliser, Munson was pulled, giving Morris the chance to dive for a loose puck, putting it into the net for a final score of 1-3.
