Dilly Dilly! Dillon Lawrence returns to Blaze
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart has confirmed that 24-year-old Canadian forward Dillon Lawrence will return to the club for a second season.
Over 2018/19, his debut year for Coventry, the 6’3” Toronto native registered 8 goals, 8 assists for 16 points in 54 Elite League regular season games, also playing 8 times in the Challenge Cup and playoffs.
Voted the iExcellence Blaze player of the month for March 2019, his strong performances were well rewarded with additional ice time and responsibility, going on to be named most improved player at the end of season awards.
Prior, Lawrence spent a season with the now defunct Edinburgh Capitals and during the summer of 2018 iced in the Australian Ice Hockey League with Melbourne Ice where in 21 appearances he registered 17 goals and 16 assists for 33 points.
Lawrence's early career saw him spend time in the NCAA with Boston University after progressing through the Toronto Nationals/Eagles midget junior system.
Stewart said, “Dillon contributed all of his points in the final 26 games of the season last year. With increased time due to injuries, he stepped up and proved he could play in our line-up. There are many things I like about Dillon. For his size he skates very well and has a good skill level. He’s responsible in all three zones and is dependable in the circle. He is still young, and I think he has a lot more to offer, and hopefully next season he will progress even further.”
