Crowder double downs Blaze

Flyers 6
v
Blaze 3

A double from former Genting Casino Coventry Blaze forward Tim Crowder helped the Fife Flyers to a 6-3 victory over the Blaze in Kirkcaldy on Saturday night.

Danny Stewart’s side travelled to Scotland without defenceman Dillon Eichstadt but were boosted by the return of forward David Broll.

The opening twenty minutes saw six goals with Crowder registering his first at 6.46 to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

Charles Corcoran tied the game (13.45) on a 5-on-3 powerplay before Johnny Curran gave Blaze a 1-2 advantage on the resulting 5-on-4 (14.59).

With an assist on the goal, Coventry Captain Drew Schiestel broke a club record for being the first defenceman in history to record at least a point in each of his first five Elite League competition appearances.

That was the first and only lead Blaze were to have on the night though as Crowder’s second (15.56) made it 2-2 and the momentum again swung towards the Flyers.

With Chase Schaber (17.34) and Carlo Finucci on the powerplay scoring (19.14) to make it 4-2 after 20 minutes, it saw the end of the night for Canadian Jamie Phillips who was replaced in the Coventry goal by Brit Jordan Hedley.

Former Flyer, and Blaze’s early season top-scorer Evan Bloodoff gave his side hope at 29.03 as he made it 4-3, but a second from Finucci (37.44) gave Coventry a hill to climb going into the third.

It was a challenge too much as an empty net strike from Kyle Just on 58.53 ended the scoring for a final score of 6-3.
