Convincing win for Blaze in MK
In a traditionally tricky hunting ground, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze skated away from Planet Ice, Milton Keynes with a convincing 2-6 victory over the Lightning.
Coventry’s top goal and point scorer against MK, Shawn Pauly got them off to the perfect start, beating Patrick Killeen in close for 0-1 at 3.21.
With his first of two on the night, Alex Nikiforuk registered on the powerplay at 17.48, Tim Crowder picking up an assist on each of the two first period markers.
It was 0-3 on 24.05 as youngster Dillon Lawrence showed a good burst of speed, shooting to score his 2nd of the Elite League season.
MK’s most lively forward, Georgs Golovkovs cut the deficit (27.08) but Blaze fired straight back through Luke Ferrara (28.03) and a well taken penalty shot by the club’s top point and goal scorer Ben Lake (28.22).
With the score at 1-5 going into the third period, Nikiforuk (48.18) and Golovkovs (50.33) each doubled their tally for a final result of 2-6.
