Coach Stewart makes alterations to Blaze roster
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze can confirm that forwards Björn Bombis and Taylor Carnevale have both left the club today.
We wish them both all the very best in the future and thank them for their efforts this season.
Blaze can also now confirm the signings of American forwards Barry Almeida and T.J. Syner.
Almeida (27) and Syner (28), who are cousins by family marriage, were signed to play in The Alps league with Italian club Gherdëina this season but both departed after just a handful of games.
Almeida is the winner of no less than seven Championships during his career and in 2007-2008 was selected in the USHL First All-Star team.
The next four years, Almeida spent at the prestigious Boston College of the NCAA where he was to become a Champion three times. In his final college season (2011-12) he wore an ‘A’ on his shirt, and together with Chris Kreider and Johnny Gaudrea, who both now play in the NHL, recorded a 40 point-season.
Almeida was the leading scorer for East Coast Hockey League side Utah Grizzlies last season with 29 goals (plus 19 assists) in 58 regular games, in addition an impressive 13 points (5+8) in 10 playoff games.
Syner wasn't far behind his team-mate with 46 points (14+32) in 55 regular season games and 6 in 10 playoff games (2+4).
In season 2012-13 the pair won the prestigious East Coast Hockey League Kelly Cup with the Reading Royals.
Both players hold left hand shots and both have played the majority of their careers alongside each other having grown up together in Springfield.
All being well both players will be in the Blaze line-up this weekend.
We will have further information on both signings and reaction with Danny Stewart later today.
