Clements returns on two-year deal

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are pleased to announce that British defenceman David Clements has signed a new TWO-YEAR deal with the club.

Clements, who began his hockey career in the Coventry youth system before moving to North America, joined the Blaze pro-ranks as part of a two-way deal with the Milton Keynes Lightning in 2015.

After impressing at the Elite League level, he quickly accepted the opportunity to join his home-town team on a full-time basis. Playing 41 games, he helped Blaze reach the Playoff final in his debut season.

His second year saw him ice 59 times in the Elite League and Challenge Cup, scoring his first goal for the club and adding 4 assists.

In the campaign just gone, as an established member of the defensive core, the now 23-year-old totalled 9 points in 63 Elite League competition games.

Off the ice, at each of the past two end of season awards shows, Clements’ superb contribution to the Coventry community has been recognised, which includes visiting a large number of schools and delivering assemblies.

In November 2016, the former Great Britain under-18’s Captain, proudly made his senior international debut against Team Norway.

Prior to moving back to the UK, Clements played six junior seasons in North America, first in Notre Dame before moving on to Ogden Mustangs where he was made Captain for two seasons and left the club's all-time leading points scorer for a defenceman.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “David adds to our British contingency and is coming off an improved season for us. He's a good puck mover and now has two full seasons of good ice-time under his belt, and during that time he’s gained valuable experience that can hopefully help him reach the quality of the very best Brits, and see him feature for the national team.”
