Chris Pohlkamp returns for Elite Series

The Coventry Blaze are pleased to welcome back defenceman Chris Pohlkamp for the 2021 Elite League series.

The 25-year-old, in his first professional season, registered 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 48 regular season games for the Blaze over the 2019/20 campaign. He also played in nine Challenge Cup games with one assist.

His first professional goal came in a 6-4 victory over the Manchester Storm at the Skydome Arena on 29th September 2019.

Before joining the Blaze, the 5'10" right-shooter came through the well-respected Bowling Green State University (BGSU) where over four seasons he played 141 times registering 36 points (two goals, 34 assists).

Regularly amongst the team’s top plus/minus players, he was named a WCHA All-Academic twice. In his senior year, he was chosen as the Coach’s Player of the Year and was a recipient of a WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award.

Prior to BGSU, Pohlkamp was a 2015 Clark Cup Champion with Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said, "Chris was a big part of our back-end. He transitioned well into pro. He is good in all areas. He skates well, is reliable defensively and a big part of our penalty-kill. He's young and hungry so we're glad to get him back for this."

Pohlkamp joins David Clements, Paul Swindlehurst and Cole Shudra on the Blaze blue-line for the Elite Series.

The Elite Series will be played throughout April, behind closed doors at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham.

Thanks to Matt Pohlkamp

Thank you and good luck for the future to Chris' brother, Matt Pohkamp who has decided to hang up the skates. Matt played a total of 63 games for the Blaze last season with 44 points (19 goals, 25 assists).
