Chabot begins tributes to Cowley

Former Assistant Coach of the Coventry Blaze, Luc Chabot has begun the tributes for #17 Russell Cowley ahead of his jersey retirement on Sunday at the Skydome Arena.

Chabot, who previously iced for the Solihull Blaze, and Barons, joined the Coventry coaching staff ahead of the prestigious Grand Slam season of 2004/05.

He was to play a crucial role as the organisation established itself as a force in the Elite League and a huge sporting success in the city.

With Cowley in the line-up, the Canadian lifted a number of trophies over his 9 year stint as right-hand man to Paul Thompson (the pair pictured above).

Now Head Coach of the Rockland Nationals Midget AAA (Under 18’s) team, Chabot said of Cowley:

“Congratulations to Russell on his special jersey retirement night. Its’ a very well deserved honour for a player that was an ultimate team player, playing all positions with great confidence when needed.

“Russell was an excellent skater with a great work ethic and was an integral part of our success in my years with the Blaze.

“To play at the top level for such a long career just proves how dedicated he was on and off the ice and he ended his career with a long list of Championships in the Elite League and with the Great Britain team in the World Championships.

“Enjoy your special night and I will have a cold one in your honour on Sunday.”

The Blaze would encourage fans to purchase tickets for this special game as soon as possible as we are expecting a big crowd.

Please also arrive and find your seats as early as you can on the night. Doors open at 4.30pm.

The ceremony will take place before the puck-drop around 5.15pm. We recommend that everyone is seated by 5pm.
