Brolldozer arrives in Coventry

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze are excited to announce the signing of 26-year old rugged Canadian forward “Brolldozer” David Broll for the 2019/20 Elite League season.

Since 2011, the 6’2” winger has played close to 300 AHL regular season and Calder Cup playoff games (39 points), building a reputation for being a big presence on the ice through his hard-hitting, no-nonsense style of play.

This has included a strong willingness to stick up for his teammates as evidenced by his near 600 AHL penalty minutes most notably with Toronto Marlies, Syracruse Crunch, St. John’s IceCaps and Laval Rockets.

In the most recent season, Broll began in the AHL with Providence Bruins but following injury was added to the roster of Jacksonville IceMen in the ECHL where he recorded 6 goals, 7 assists for 13 points in 29 games. His ECHL experience also equates to 16 games and 9 points for Orlando Solar Bears where he was selected to league’s all-star game in 2014/15.

Prior to turning pro, the left-shooter played 265 regular season and playoff games in the OHL with Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Erie Otters where he contributed 141 points with 308 penalty minutes and was named an associate captain.

Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in round 6 (152nd overall) of the 2011 NHL draft, Broll went on to sign a three-year entry-level contract and play 5 games for the famous club in the world’s best league during 2013/14.

In 2015, he was acquired by the Tampa Bay Lightning and later in 2017 spent time in the NHL training camp of the Montreal Canadians before returning to the AHL.

Off the ice, throughout his career Broll has shown tremendous willingness to be involved in the community and was proudly named St. John’s IceCaps Speciality AHL Man of the Year in 2016/17 along with being a regular team representative for the Professional Hockey Players Association.

Head Coach Danny Stewart said, “David will play a huge part in our line-up this season. We wanted to add some size and presence up-front and he does that. The key element to this signing is that he can play. He’s not a guy that’s going to go out and take penalty after penalty. He’s big, can possess the puck, and has a very good skill set. His presence will allow guys to play bigger and a bit freer, but we will also look to him to contribute on the scoreboard for us. He’s been a big hit in the community wherever he’s played and I’m certain he will be with our fans as well.”

Broll commented, “I am excited about playing my 7th season pro in the UK next season. After speaking to coach Danny Stewart about the organisation and the team he is putting together, I felt that it was something I wanted to be a part of and at this point in my career, it was the best option for me. The fans in Coventry should expect a big power forward with grit that plays physical and can skate well and add some offence too. I can’t wait for August.”
