Brian Stewart returns this weekend

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach Danny Stewart has confirmed that Canadian netminder Brian Stewart will return for the home double header this weekend.

Stewart, was forced to leave the game in Sheffield last Saturday after a collision with Steelers’ Zack Fitzgerald. The incident, later reported by Blaze and punished with a two game ban by the Elite League’s Department of Player Safety for checking to the head/neck.

A relieved Danny Stewart said, “We’ve been monitoring Stewie all week, he obviously took it easy at the start of the week and we’ve slowly pushed him harder every day, and as of this morning a call was made that he’ll be starting tomorrow, so it looks positive for the weekend.

“It didn’t look great first thing after last weekend but he felt better as the week went on and the medical staff gave me information to recognise whether we needed to push Brian or look for alternative options. I think all of the guys when they pick up an injury, the first thing is ‘when I can get back’. They want to play and that’s when we have to come in, and maybe a guy has to be pushed a little bit, or sometimes they need to be held back. Brian is definitely keen to get back playing, he’s ready and we’re very happy that we’re going to have him this weekend.”
