Blaze victorious on return home
Following four road games on the bounce, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze returned home to gain a hard-fought 4-1 victory over the Fife Flyers at the Skydome Arena.
In a tightly-contested first period Flyers’ Danick Gauthier put his side ahead on a scramble play at 4.08.
After C.J. Motte denied Carlo Finucci on a breakaway, Blaze’s league-leading top-scorer Luke Ferrara finally beat Adam Morrison at the other end on the powerplay (18.24) to tie the game 1-1.
It was 2-1 at 27.21 when Ferrara bagged his second and 23rd of the regular season, again with a fantastic snipe on the powerplay.
Just seconds later (27.58), creative Finnish forward Janne Laakkonen was able to put home a loose puck to give Coventry a commanding lead at the mid-point of the game.
With each team tiring from lengthily travel schedules, Blaze in Glasgow the night before and Fife being delayed getting to Coventry, the home side set up well defensively to play out the third period and with an empty net goal from Venus (58.33) took a 4-1 victory and two Elite League points.
