Blaze slayed by Giants
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze suffered a second defeat to Belfast Giants in as many nights as they went down 6-3 at the SSE Arena.
Blaze welcomed back Cale Tanaka as they await the outcome of their appeal against his additional two-game ban while James Isaacs was again a healthy scratch.
Giants, who won 2-1 in a shoot-out on Saturday, took the lead at 14.31 through Darryl Lloyd and Mike Radja added a second at 17.06.
Blaze defenceman Boris Valabik and Giants captain Adam Keefe were then assessed fighting majors just three seconds into the middle session.
Jordan Pietrus pulled a goal back for Blaze at 28.07 - his 15th marker of the season - but James Desmarais restored Giants' two-goal cushion 78 seconds later.
Craig Peacock (42.11) and Desmarais (44.09) extended Giants' lead but two Tanaka markers (46.43 & 49.19) hauled Blaze back to within two goals.
Kris Beech's short-handed empty-net strike with 33 seconds remaining then wrapped up the points for Belfast.
"I am not happy with our weekend. We battled hard on Friday but we did not show up with enough push tonight, we were on our heels from the start.
"Unfortunately we did not win enough battles. But this team has been inconsistent from day one.
"The one positive was our penalty kill which was fantastic all weekend as they have had a lot of dominance on their powerplay.
"Cale got a couple of opportunities in the third and showed some good flashes, he used his speed and got involved.
"He played with a lot of jump, he was rewarded with a lot of ice time and he did a good job." - Head Coach Chuck Weber
