Blaze search for new goalie as Stewart departs
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze will have a new face between the pipes next season with 6'5" Brian Stewart departing following three seasons with the organisation.
The popular netminder joined Blaze in 2014, playing a crucial role in the club winning the Elite League Playoff Championship in his first session. It was a year which also saw Stewart named Elite League goalie of the year and a first all-star.
Following the playoff success, the Canadian signed a two-year extension to his contract which included the opportunity to study for an MBA at Coventry University.
Stewart, who in his three years was named Player of the Year twice and had over 75% success rate in shoot-outs, led Blaze to a second playoff final in season two, this time though losing out to the Nottingham Panthers.
Despite the disappointment of missing the playoffs this past campaign, Stewart set a record for most Man of the Match performances on home ice in a single season and ends his time with the club, second in the all-time list of Coventry Man of the Match awards.
The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze would like to thank Brian for his huge contribution over the past three years and we wish him all the best for the future.
