Blaze halt winless streak with Dundee victory
The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze halted a winless streak of six games by defeating the Dundee Stars 3-5 at the Dundee Ice Arena in the Elite League.
After a 6.30am coach trip North, the Blaze got off to the perfect start as the in-form Luke Ferrara opened the scoring (his 13th of the Elite League season) at 7.05 on a 5-on-3 powerplay.
After killing two minor penalties of their own, Coventry extended their lead to two at 24.35 as former Dundee forward Charles Corcoran beat Alex LeClerc with a shot on the rush.
It was 0-3 on 26.52 as Evan Bloodoff, like Ferrara before him, scored his 13th of the Elite League campaign following a good feed by Johnny Curran.
The Stars got on the board before the end of the second period as Drydn Dow fired through traffic to make it 1-3 at 37.20.
Ferrara’s 14th of the Elite League campaign, timed 44.56 extended the Coventry lead to 1-4 and saw the Brit move to the top of Blaze’s goalscoring charts.
Following a defensive mistake from Dundee, speedy forward Dillon Lawrence capitalised to make it a 1-5 game with his third of the season at 51.38.
Before the end of the 60 minutes, former Coventry forward Matt Marquardt was to make the score more respectable for the home side, scoring twice at 54.04 and 59.46 but it wasn’t enough as Blaze halted their winless streak with a 3-5 victory.
