Blaze grab third straight victory over Steelers

Steelers 2
Blaze 3

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze registered a 3-2 shoot-out victory over Sheffield Steelers in the Elite League at Sheffield Arena.

James Isaacs was again a healthy scratch for Blaze, who grabbed the go-ahead goal at 1.41 through Brett Robinson's 13th marker of the season, assisted by Brenden Walker.

Mathieu Roy tied the game, picking up on turnover at 14.27 before Ben O'Connor nudged Steelers in front at 31.47, beating Stewart following a fake attempt.

Robinson then posted his second to make it a 2-2 game at 39.18, again assisted by Walker.

The third period was littered with Blaze penalties but led by Brian Stewart in goal they stood strong, despite missing Godfrey and Noble from the blue-line and the game headed to overtime.

Despite an end-to-end overtime period there was no breakthrough and the game went to the penalty shoot-out.

Drew Fisher and Jordan Pietrus were successful whilst Stewart stopped shots from Tyler Mosienko and Ryan Hayes claiming a third successive win over the defending champions.

"The effort, the courage, the desperation we showed... the Robinson goal at the end of the second period... and what can you say about our penalty kill... I couldn't be more proud of the way that they and Stewy (Brian Stewart) battled." - Head Coach Chuck Weber

"It was a good team win. We got a couple of timely goals and our shootout record has been pretty good. Fisher's goal was pretty nice." - #23 Brett Robinson

"We have got to bear down, we had better chances tonight than we did against them in the two losses previous, but we didn't bury them, it's as simple as that." - Steelers Head Coach, Paul Thompson
