Blaze frustrated by Flames

Flames 2
Blaze 0

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze were left frustrated losing 2-0 in the Challenge Cup to the Guildford Flames at the Spectrum on Saturday.

Finnish forward Janne Kivilahti made his debut for the Blaze, but the addition of his offence wasn't enough to find a way past Guildford's inspired goalie Kevin Lindskoug.

Jordan Cownie scored the go ahead goal for the Flames on the powerplay at 22.13 and despite a five-minute powerplay late in the game, the Blaze couldn't find the equaliser.

The game penalty went to the Flames' Kyle Locke for checking to the head. Blaze associate Captain David Broll was later also thrown from the game for abuse of official.

Coventry pulled netminder C.J. Motte in their quest for the elusive goal, and Robert Lachowicz wrapped up the points for the home side with an empty net goal with ten seconds remaining on the clock.
