Blaze continue cup campaign in Manchester
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze travel to Manchester today for their third Challenge Cup game of the season (face-off 5pm). With a win and a loss in the cup so far, Blaze are looking to repeat their pre-season victory at the Altrincham Storm Shelter, their first on Manchester’s ice since their resurrection last summer.
In their opening game of the Challenge Cup, Omar Pacha’s side took a 4-2 victory over the Cardiff Devils with Darian Dziurzynski impressing, scoring twice and assisting on the other two, earning him Elite League Player of the Week.
Also impressing in that game for Manchester was Michael Clemente between the pipes, picking up Man of the Match as he turned away 43 of Cardiff's 45 shots.
As Blaze fell to the Sheffield Steelers at the Skydome Arena last night, the Storm led again by Dziurzynski with a double strike were adding to Braehead Clan’s early season struggles, beating them in Glasgow by a score of 1-2.
Danny Stewart will again be without Canadian forward Matt Marquardt who has returned home to take upon best man duties at a close friend's wedding.
The Head Coach said, "It was unfortunate not to get something out of the game last night but we will re-group and look forward to Manchester as it's a huge two points towards our goal of advancing to the next stage of the Challenge Cup."
Captain and Man of the Match last night Jordan Pietrus commented, "Manchester have improved massively since last year. We will have to be on our game if we want to get a win, but it’s a challenge that myself and the rest of the team are up for."
#74 Liam Stewart who scored his first Blaze goal yesterday said, "We have to go in there with a good attitude, put last night behind us, play our game, get pucks deep, work in the corners and hopefully get two points out of it."
