Blaze come from behind to defeat Clan

Blaze 5
Clan 3

A three-goal third period gave the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze a come-from-behind 5-3 win over the Glasgow Clan at the Skydome Arena.
The Blaze, playing in their Valentine’s jerseys and with defenceman David Clements making his 300th appearance for the club, were at full strength. The Clan were without long-term injury victims Mathieu Roy, Jordan Heywood and Jack Musil.
The game got off to a fast start, with the Clan taking the lead after just 66 seconds through GB defenceman Travis Ehrhardt with a shot from the blue line. But the Blaze equalised within a minute when Andrew Johnston found the net for his 19th league goal of the season at 2.04.

Just over five minutes later, and with the Blaze on the power play, the Clan retook the lead. With Mikael Lidhammar sitting for two minutes for hooking, the Clan broke away and Scott Tanski scored the short-handed goal past CJ Motte at 7.19.

The second period saw both sides create chances before the Clan extended their lead when Rasmus Bjerrum poked the puck past Motte at 31.55. But as the period drew to a close, the Blaze cut the deficit to one when man-of-the-match Johnston fired home his second of the night, and 20th league goal of the season, at 38.27 after good work by Luke Ferrara and Janne Laakkonen.

With the game entering its final nine minutes, the Blaze got themselves back on level terms through Matt Pohlkamp on the powerplay at 51.39. Just over two-and-a-half minutes later the Blaze capitalised on another powerplay to take the lead for the first time, with Ferrara firing home for his 28th league goal of the season at 54.10.

As the game wound down to the final minutes the Clan pulled netminder Patrick Killeen for the extra attacker as they sought an equaliser. But it was the Blaze who sealed the victory through an empty net goal by David Broll at 59.42.
