Blaze blanked by Braehead
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze's struggles against Braehead Clan continued as they were beaten 3-0 at Braehead Arena in the Elite League.
Chris Bruton grabbed the go-ahead goal for Clan at 32.59 before Blaze had Cale Tanaka ejected at 42.53 on a 5+game checking to the head penalty after a hit on Matt Haywood.
Having pulled goaltender Brian Stewart, Brendan Brooks added the insurance marker with 67 seconds remaining on the powerplay and Ben Davies scored another empty-net marker at 59.53.
Clan netminder Travis Fullerton made 26 saves as Blaze were shut-out for the second successive game in Glasgow and third time in four meetings this season.
"It was a greasy road game. I really liked our game and we did not give up much.
Our powerplay struggled and with the five-minute major and the penalty at the end we just ran out of time.
[Chris] Holt played really well in our building and the 6-0 game we just did not turn up - it was the worst game we have played all year.
We scored six on them at home but their goalie [Fullerton] tonight played well and made an unbelievable back-door save in the 18th minute of the third period.
Their goaltending has been fantastic and [coach] Ryan [Finnerty] has done a really good job with their defensive structure. They are my pick to win it [the title]." - Head Coach Chuck Weber
