Blaze Back 2021 Bid With Special Cup Jersey

As the competition to be UK City of Culture in 2021 is hotting up, Coventry’s bid has secured an ice cool partnership.

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze, the city’s elite ice hockey club, has joined forces with the Coventry City of Culture Trust to help promote the city’s efforts to land the prestigious prize.

And that includes having the Coventry City of Culture logo on the front of the new Challenge Cup jersey, which has been designed to celebrate some of the great things about the city such as the three spires and Lady Godiva.

There is also an advertising board at the Skydome Arena promoting the bid.

It comes at a key moment in the campaign as the final bid document will be submitted in September ahead of a visit by the judges before the winner is announced in December.

Nicole Malatesta, Fundraising Officer at Coventry City of Culture Trust, said: “We are thrilled to have the backing of Coventry Blaze and we hope the team’s many thousands of supporters will get behind us too, especially on social media.

“Blaze appeals to a real cross-section of the community, attracting fans who are young and old, men and women and across a range of ethnic backgrounds.

“Our bid to be UK City of Culture in 2021 encompasses that diversity too so it’s a great partnership for both Blaze and the bid.”

Andy Buxton, Chairman of Coventry Blaze, said: “We're delighted to be joining the cause and backing Coventry's bid to become the UK City of Culture in 2021.

“We're very proud to be an integral part of the city's cultural and sporting offering and a team that represents Coventry the length and breadth of the UK. It would be fantastic for the bid to be successful and so we are thrilled to be doing our bit to help.”

Coventry City Council, The University of Warwick, and Coventry University are Principal Partners of the bid and are providing significant support. The Ricoh Arena is Bid Sponsor while Jaguar Land Rover, Adient, Friargate, Coventry Building Society, the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, Birmingham Airport, PET-Xi, SCC, Pertemps, CEF (City Electrical Factors) and Listers are also Bid Development Sponsors.
