Blaze and PET-Xi open Food Bank on Sunday

On Sunday vs. Manchester Storm at the Skydome Arena (5.15pm), the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze and partners PET-Xi (profile page) will be opening a food bank in support of The Trussell Trust.

The Trussell Trust has a network of 428 foodbanks, including in Coventry, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in our local communities, as well as across the UK.

The Foodbank Network was founded in 2004 and since then has helped communities work together to launch foodbanks nationwide in a wide range of towns and cities.

In 2016/17, The Trussell Trust’s Foodbank Network provided 1,182,954 three-day emergency food supplies and support to UK people in crisis. Of these, over 430,000 went to children.

Coventry Foodbank

If you can’t be at the Blaze game on Sunday, there is normally a foodbank centre open somewhere in the City of Coventry 7 days a week as Coventry Foodbank distributes food through 16 partner churches.

Their foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area.

They aim to provide clients with three days’ worth of emergency food, along with other support beyond food to help them solve their crisis and last year fed just under 15,800 clients.

Other services include money management advice, support from a partnership with Citizens Advice and the clothes bank which provides good quality pre-loved clothes for people in crisis.

Coventry foodbank is proud to be part of the The Trussell Trust’s UK foodbank network.

There are over 420 foodbanks in the UK and locally Rugby, Kenilworth, Nuneaton, Bedworth, Hinckley, Stratford, Warwick and Leamington have all joined the network as well.
