Big mistakes prove costly for Blaze
Genting Casino Coventry Blaze Head Coach blamed “big mistakes” as his side were defeated 3-6 by the Nottingham Panthers at the Skydome Arena.
Coventry took a lead through man-of-the-match Luke Ferrara at 4.30, back-handing past GB international Jackson Whistle who got the start in the Nottingham goal. The goal was Ferrara’s 100th Elite League competition point for the Blaze.
Panthers man-of-the-match Brett Bulmer tied the game shortly after (6.56) before they took a lead at 12.10 through recent new signing Julian Talbot (12.10).
A third came for the away side came at 12.55 as Ollie Betteridge beat Jamie Phillips short side to make it 1-3.
Ferrara’s 101st Elite League competition point came at 14.55 as he fed Andrew Johnston who finished nicely on a breakaway for 2-3.
The Panthers extended their lead again at 21.19 when a cross ice pass from Talbot was converted by Dylan Malmquist to make it 2-4.
Shortly after, Sam Herr made a nice move and found Robert Lachowicz who finished into a wide-open goal to increase the Panthers tally to 5 (22.21).
At 31.08, Evan Bloodoff pulled it back to 3-5 with his 12th goal of the Elite League season.
With Phillips pulled, a diving Bulmer registered into the empty net to complete the scoring and give a final score of 3-6.
