12 reasons to join us vs. Panthers (19/02)

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze take on the Nottingham Panthers at the Skydome Arena on Sunday (5.15pm face-off).

Here's 12 reasons why you should join us:

1. Because it’s the final ‘Derby Day’

Sunday will be the last time our local rivals, the Nottingham Panthers come to the Skydome Arena this season – the games are running out fast so make sure you don’t miss this one!

2. Because of last time

Panthers last came to the Skydome on the 8th January, Swedish forward Robin Bergman becoming just the third player to score twice for Coventry in a single Elite League competition shootout (after Adam Calder also vs. Nottingham in November 2008 and Drew Fisher at Belfast in October 2015). That win, also meant Blaze have won 9 out of the last 10 Elite League competition meetings with Panthers that have been decided in overtime or on penalty shots – a sequence started in February 2008.

3. Because our intro is awesome

With a face-off at 5.15pm, we highly recommend that you get settled into your seat by 5pm to appreciate the full Blaze pre-game experience. We’ve easily got the best blow-up in the league, and the introduction lead by Lorde’s, Everybody Wants to Rule The World sets the atmosphere perfectly ahead of the big game – come and see it for yourself!

4. Because it’s Stewy’s birthday

#41 Brian Stewart will be hoping to mark his 32nd Birthday with a big W. You can win the Birthday boy’s jersey in the Southam Agri game-worn shirt raffle – tickets just £1 each.

5. Because of “Eggy”

We are pleased to welcome the brand new DRP Puck Truck “Eggy” – Chuck your puck into the truck to go into a draw to win a Blaze season ticket for the 2017/18 season. Pucks can be purchased for just £1 each or get 3 for the price of 2 – or 8 chances for just £5. Remember too, if you land a puck on the Risk Disc - you win £200!

6. Because it’s the first chance to get awards show tickets

Tickets for the awards show at Coombe Abbey Hotel on Friday 24th March will be available from the Fanzone for the first time (full information).

7. Because we’ll see a new face to the league

Latvian forward Deivids Sarkanis has joined the Panthers from Austrian club Kitzbüheler EC where he posted 29 points in 34 Alps Hockey League games. The 22-year-old makes his debut against the Blaze this weekend.

8. Because ice hockey inspires

No more evident than the amazing progress of our junior reporter Lola. Not only becoming increasingly confident in her Blaze media work but now also strapping on the skates herself!

9. Because of Renny Marr

The Scot has gained some well-deserved ice time in recent games, stopping all 9 shots faced in the 17 and-a-half minutes played in last Saturday’s game vs. the league leading Cardiff Devils. You can pick up a free player card of the Blaze #30 and he’ll be signing post-game with British forward #59 Ross Venus.

10. Because of our powerplay

The best of all teams in Erhardt Conference games (21.6%) and fourth overall in the Elite League (17.9%).

11. Because we need you to choose the Man of the Match

On Sunday, we are trialling a new way to do the Man of the Match vote. Instead of asking fans to use #BlazeMOTM we will be casting a Twitter poll on @covblazehockey towards the end of the game. We are doing this for a couple of reasons. First, as a way of calculating votes more quickly and efficiently. Second, to encourage as many fans as possible to make a vote – so please help us by remembering to cast your vote from the list of top-contenders.

12. Because you could go VIP

The past few weeks have seen the SkyLounge completely sold-out. On Sunday, (as of 17/02/17) there are a limited number of tickets left to enjoy the game from the very best seats in the house. Included is complimentary parking, free tea and coffee and a private bar. You will also be treated to a post-game visit by #23 Brett Robinson and #5 Ben Davies. Tickets for the SkyLounge can be booked online (top left on the arena seat map) for £30.
