12 Giant reasons to join us on Sunday
This Sunday, the Genting Casino Coventry Blaze face the Belfast Giants at the Skydome Arena in the Elite League (5.15pm face-off). Here's a dozen reasons why you should join us:
1. Air the bear
Touch wood we're not jinxing anything, but when hopefully Blaze light the lamp for the first time on Sunday, we're asking all of our fans to 'Air the bear' - meaning there will be hundreds of teddy bears and soft toys being thrown through the air and onto the ice in support of the British Heart Foundation.
2. Skate with the Blaze
After the game, fans are invited to jump onto the ice with the Blaze team for a 30 minute skate. Whether you can skate, or not, everyone's welcome!
3. Assist King Syner
T.J Syner has registered an assist in eight consecutive EIHL games - the first Coventry player to do so since Dan Carlson in January-February 2011.
4. The Powerplay's on fire
Blaze have scored a powerplay goal in each of their last eight games. It's the best run since a streak of nine in October-November 2013.
5. British legend 1 point from 700
Ashley Tait’s next point will see him become the first player to reach 700 career EIHL competition points (Coventry and Sheffield). Will it be on Sunday?!
6. Turkey rolls in the SkyLounge
Roast Turkey rolls with all the trimmings - topped off with pigs in Blankets. CMB Catering are treating guests in the SkyLounge this Christmas. Book tickets online, HERE.
7. It was so much fun last time
Two goals from Ross Venus and a 4-1 Blaze win on home ice the last time the two sides met.
8. Davies has been dynamite
Before the big road win in Braehead on Saturday night, Great Britain International Ben Davies had scored in each of Blaze’s last three games.
9. THAT beard
Of Belfast Giants' Matt Nickerson (below, left). It has to be seen to be believed.
The same guy (right, below) - honestly!
10. No protests here
We were sad to see the fans of our friends Coventry City protesting on the pitch this past Thursday night. With 9 points from the last 10 and a number of players hitting top form - we don't think there will be any on ice protesting at the Skydome Arena, just a lot of screaming, shouting and clapping from the Blue Army, hopefully backing the boys to another home victory.
11. Welcome back a friend
Former Blaze defenceman Mike Quesnele will again return to the Skydome Arena in a Giants uniform. 'Q' helped us to a playoff final appearance last season, we're always happy to see the cheeky chap.
12. Belfast fans are fun
We don't like to have favourites but we always look forward to seeing the fans of the Belfast Giants and extending the same warm welcome as they give to our fans over the Irish sea.
